Bry

I originally wanted to write something about games I like or just games I've played recently for the first post, but first - I'm not good at describing games, second - it was 30°C today, and third, writing a longer text in English slows down the whole process in my case, so a post about games will appear who knows when™.

The idea of creating my Neocities page popped in my head after I posted this comment on the Flashpoint Discord server: it's always fun when you just want to curate a simple Flash game, but you end up doing Wayback Archaeology. I started thinking, why not start writing about things I found on the net? Well, so far I haven't written anything about it, so a good start, not gonna lie, but this is also one of the ideas that I want to do soon™.

The second inspiration was a fact that some of the other Flashpoint members have their sites too:

In general there is some more things that I would like to do on this site, but only time will tell how many of them I will achieve, so I will keep them for myself for now :v

VirtualBox

For no particular reason I installed Windows 98 in VirtualBox today. I already had a virtual machine with this OS, but I wanted to do a fresh install and I don't even remember where I have the folder with the old installation.

This time I wanted to keep the guest OS in the same directory as the VirtualBox installation, but apparently that wasn't the smartest idea, because I wasn’t able to edit any of the settings later due to a permissions error, so I had to move it somewhere else (hopefully I won't forget where this time). Also, when I launched VirtualBox for the first time, I was surprised to find that I already had one guest OS in it. Well, yes, some time ago I used ArchiveTeam Warrior, but I don't remember at all when and why I uninstalled VirtualBox, and where that Warrior is now I have no idea either, because it shows up as inaccessible. Remember kids, good file management is very important.

So on my brand new and shiny Windows 98 I had to install something. So I installed Corel WordPerfect 8.

This is a bit nostalgic for me, not because I used it back in the day, but because in 2021 I added two plug-ins to Flashpoint from Corel's office suite - Envoy and Show It! If you want to learn more about them and several other platforms supported in the archive, there are plugin descriptions written by 404_11 + a discussion from 2002 about Envoy being very dead.

Maybe in a future post I will try to do a challenge and try to write something in WordPerfect itself and convert it to Envoy :v

Video Games

Today I also played the new update to Vampire Survivors - 1.11: Darkasso. This is the type of game that never bores me. I rarely reach more than 100 hours in games*, but this is one title that I can play endlessly.

Btw, if you like Vampire Survivors, you should try HoloCure. It's a fantastic (free!) game that takes the basics of VS and adds many new mechanics, like unique character abilities that are much more complex than these presented in VS or different game modes. It's easy to get into if you like bullet heavens? reversed bullet hells? and any prior knowledge of Hololive is not required.

*Unless we’re talking about The Sims, I can easily spend thousands of hours in these games.

The Meaning of Bry

At the end, what bry means? I used it on my home page and as the first word of this text so maybe I should explain it then: it’s just from the polish good morning – dzień dobry.
